Listening isn't fixing (and that's the point)

When we tell people that Simply Heard listeners don't give advice, the reaction is often surprise. Isn't that the whole point of talking to someone?
Not always.
Think about the last time you told a friend something that was bothering you. Chances are they jumped in quickly: "Have you tried…?" "If I were you…" "At least it's not…" They meant well. But you may have walked away feeling less heard than when you started.
Advice, however kind, can make us feel as though we've got it wrong. It moves the conversation onto the other person's experience. And it rarely fits, because nobody knows your life the way you do.
Being listened to is different. When someone gives you their full attention, without interrupting or steering, you get space to think. You hear your own thoughts clearly, often for the first time. Many people find they already knew what they needed to do; they just hadn't had the room to reach it.
That's what a Simply Heard session offers:
- A trained listener who is fully focused on you
- No judgement, no advice, no agenda
- Complete confidence
- Time that is entirely yours
We're not therapy or counselling, and we'll always be honest if we think you'd benefit from more specialist support. But for the everyday weight most of us carry, sometimes the most helpful thing in the world is someone who simply listens.
When you're ready, we always have a chair for you.
